Last's in Pullman

Wow, 2 weeks from today we'll be at our new place in Selah, WA (basically Yakima)!  How do we only have 2 weeks!?  But I'm super excited!  This new phase is going to be awesome!  It's going to be a busy/fun couple weeks, including a work party with my kiddos, baby shower, glucose test ugh (does eating a lot of sugar give you gestational diabetes?  Cause i eat a lot of sugar...), and we are literally leaving town the morning after my last day of work!  Glen will be busy packing while I'm at work.  But I moved everything here while he was in Alaska, so it's ok.  ;)

I am procrastinating starting the packing process.  I haven't done anything.  I made my families delicious banana cookies today tho!  It's probably about time to start but it's just hard to decide where/how.  Glen's parents are coming up here to help us move, especially since we have like 4 vehicles we need to drive up to Yakima.  But I suppose the motorcycle and scooter will go in the u haul.

There are so many things we never did while we were here in Pullman:  The Lentil Festival, Haunted Palouse, a few restaurants, and many other things that I can't think of right now.  We've been here for over 5 years!  But sadly, I never considered it home.  Maybe because it's a college town that fluctuates so much, maybe because it's where my grandma lives and my mom grew up, so it's not "my" hometown.  It always seemed like just a step, but we will definitely miss it.  I think we'll miss the people mostly, and the small town feel, the excitement with the college, the beautiful seasons (maybe not the long winters tho), and Glen loves the Snake river.  Yakima will probably just be a "step" too, but I hope to make it not feel that way.

Here's to Pullman!!!  Football games, basketball games, dances, snake river, fun with friends, engaged, graduation, and baby boy on the way.  We've come a long way and gone through a lot together Pullman.  Yes, we will definitely miss you!  Without you, I would have never met the love of my life and made the most awesome friends.

Can I do this?

I'm just gonna be real here.  I was expecting a girl, and slightly hoping for a girl.  Cause let's be honest, I get girls.  I understand them.  I get the long conversations about nothing, the melodrama, the ups and downs, and the singing about everything they're doing.  Lol.  Glen still thinks it's weird that I sing a narrative of what I'm doing sometimes.  Isn't that normal for girls....?  Maybe not super normal, idk.  But the point is, I knew what I'd be in for with a girl.  And I was ready.

I was ready for the bows, the pink, the sparkles, and even the meltdowns about stupid things.  And I was excited to see Glen with a tiny girl wrapped around his finger.  How cute!  All the signs pointed towards girl and I was ready!

When I saw that it was most definitely a boy, I was shocked!  No, I was planning to have a girl!  This isn't right!  I was still incredibly excited, don't get me wrong, but I had to rethink all my thoughts.  I'm a planner and this was a major change of plans, for me.  With all the emotions of being pregnant and seeing our beautiful baby on the screen, I just exploded with emotions that night.  Haha.  And all I could think was, "Can I really do this?"  Can I raise a boy?  What do I know about boys.  They are silly, wild, gross, etc.  I'm girly, I don't do bugs, or horseplay.  This would be a whole new world.

But I've composed myself since then and held on to those sweet boys at work and realized, I CAN do this!  They are still so loving and caring and sweet!  They are not dramatic or sneaky or complicated... well, not as much.  And they sure love their mama's.  Boys can be just as fun.  And it will be fun to watch Glen and our son do "boy" things together.  Thank you to all you other mothers with sweet baby boys, that I can watch and think "I want a boy like that."

I'll refrain from posting the "Yep, that's a boy!" picture.   :)

I can do this right?  Any tips for raising boys?

Bows or Bow-ties...

There are a bunch of old wives tale's that predict your babies gender.  Honestly, I'm sure that most of them mean nothing, and maybe a couple have some small truth to them.  But whatever, it's still fun.  Here are my results:

Cravings: sweet = girl      *Nothing weird tho
Mood: grumpy = girl
Sleeping: right side? = girl
Chinese calander: girl
Heart rate: high = girl
Key grab: boy
Beauty: no = girl
Carrying: high? = girl
Morning sickness: yes = girl
Baby dreams: one of each?
Ring test: I can't remember, lol, but I think it said girl

I took a bunch of other ones with some friends that were about 75% girl.  My husband has always said girl, and he kind of wants a girl, which I think is so cute lol!  I kind of want a girl too.  Of course, I wouldn't care either way, and I have always thought it would be cool to have an older brother.  So a boy first would be nice too.  But so would having a girl to babysit earlier.  We just can't wait to find out!

Our appointment to find out is scheduled for Monday the 31st!  By this time next week, we'll know!  Well, we better, hopefully they won't have their legs crossed.  As a side note, I felt the baby kick for the first time last Friday.  But it's still very faint and it's only like once a day.  I feel like it's a little late to finally start feeling it, but maybe not.  I'm pretty sure it's the baby, but I guess I don't really know.

The Awkward Stage

I know that everyone who is not pregnant would be mad at me for calling myself fat, when I'm pregnant.  And I don't think I am, but I do feel like everything looks and fits differently now.  Suddenly my boobs are bigger and my tummy is bloated.  And this happened very quickly.  I remember thinking, I can't be showing yet.  No one starts showing at 8 weeks.  But it only got worse from there.  I think I have officially "popped" now, so to speak.  Last Friday I had 4 people tell me that I was showing now.  They would say that in an endearing sort of way.  And I suppose it is exciting but it also felt like a socially acceptable way of saying "you're tummy is getting fatter."  Haha.  Do not think that you can no longer say this to me, I realize that I have popped but has anyone else experienced this feeling at the start of their pregnancy??

I am super excited to have a baby!  I'm even excited to have that big round belly.  But I am not excited to be in that awkward stage before it becomes a big round belly.  The stage where people can't tell if you're pregnant or just gaining weight.  Nothing fits me anymore.  My regular clothes look weird and maternity clothes are too big.  But it's the stage we all had to go through, right?

I also find it funny when people tell me that I don't look any different.  That I'm not showing at all.  What's funny isn't that they are saying that, what's funny is how I don't like hearing that.  Lol.  Did I always look this fat to you?  But obviously they don't scrutinize my body the way I do.  A few pounds is never as noticeable to someone else.  And I know they are trying to be nice.  I've even thought that about my friends who have been pregnant.  But I'm sure they could tell that they looked different.

Oh, the joys of this stage.  Pretty soon here I'll probably start taking some belly pictures.

First Trimester

I'm a couple weeks past my first trimester so it's about time to share my thoughts.  And I promise not to talk about just my pregnancy on my blog.  It will be a good majority tho, so sorry if you are uninterested.

Have you seen the movie What to Expect When You're Expecting?  Well, I LOVE that movie!  And basically I am the uncomfortable blonde in the movie.  You know, the one with all the annoying problems.  Unlike the step mom who floats through her pregnancy with an energetic glow.  Not me.  My two main thoughts throughout this pregnancy have been THIS SUCKS, and, to quote the movie, "Making a human being is really hard" with tears in my eyes.

I cannot deny the fact that the only good thing to come from being pregnant so far is the fact that I am pregnant.  I wanted this, and I am super excited, don't get me wrong, but so far this sucks.  My symptoms include nausea, acid reflux, headaches, possibly heartburn (although I don't actually know what that is), exhaustion, weakness, muscles spasms, backne (from the movie), tender breasts, and an uncomfortable bloated stomach feeling.  Let alone my fat new look.  It's hard to describe how it really feels, but it is mostly like the day after you have the flu, when you are simply weak and tired and still feel sick.  Or possibly being punched in the stomach but it's all over your body, or carsickness.  But it's 24/7, and worse at night.  The worst part is that it won't get better in a couple days, it lasts a couple months.  So I just have to bear through it.

I have not worked out, or cared what I ate, or really cared much about anything.  I hardly left the house for 2 months.  I still don't know if work was a good distraction or if it just made life harder.  But all I can say is that January and most of February were really hard months.  And I really hope this lets me have an easy baby lol.

I am 14 weeks now and it's starting to get better.  Yesterday I didn't feel sick until dinner!  I was able to enjoy going out and going shopping.  Bought my first maternity jeans, which are awesome!!  Very comfy and cute.  I think I will be wearing them for Thanksgiving from now on.  :)  I hope things just get better from here.

If you haven't seen this movie, you have to see it.  Whether you have kids or not, it's hilarious.

What I Would Tell My 23 Year Old Self

Well, there are a lot of things I would tell myself at 23; newly married, just graduated from college.  Like:

  • Working full time is hard, there will be less time to run errands and meet people for coffee
  • But the free time at night to do nothing but watch TV will quickly get old, so pick up some hobbies
  • Sometimes a degree doesn't mean as much as you thought it did; it better be a degree that's useful
  • Remember to keep doing little things to show your husband you love him
  • Balancing work, school, and marriage is hard for him too
  • Don't forget to keep in touch with your friends.  Just because you're married doesn't mean you can ignore everyone else, even if it was on accident
  • Let your husband be himself, let him be free to do what he enjoys, not always what you both agree on

But these are not the main reason for this post.  What I really want to talk about is not to continue waiting for your life to begin.  Don't wait till you are done with college, wait till you have a baby, wait till you get the job you always wanted, wait till you have more money, etc.  My husband has just over a year left of school, we are about to have a baby, and I will be quitting my job in May.  I will be closer to the life I was always waiting for.  I'll be in "the SAHM club."  But now that I look back, I spent the last 3 years just waiting.  Nothing else.  I accomplished a lot and still had fun, but I was always just waiting for real life to begin.

"Real life" is such a silly term.  What does that really mean?  Life is life.  It's always real.  I don't know if everyone feels this way sometimes or if no one does, but I did.  Maybe that's just part of what happens when you are married and still trying to get through college.  I remember waiting till I could go to high school, then waiting for my first boyfriend, then waiting to graduate college, and waiting to get married.  I guess there's been a lot of waiting for different stages.  So no matter what stage you're in, it's best to just live it up.  Easier said than done, I know.  At the same time, I know that hope for something in the future is important.  It helps us get through what we need to.  Hope should never be taken away.  But wasted time is not going to help anything either.  So there's my two cents, younger me.  :)

The Big News

The moment I had been waiting for had finally come!  Glen and I had started trying to get pregnant; which is a somewhat more complicated and annoying process than I originally thought.  The previous month I started having tons of symptoms, thinking I was pregnant.  Plus I was 8 days late!  I knew for sure I was pregnant.  I planned to call the doctor the next day to set up an appointment to make sure.... The next day I started my period.  :(  So when the next month came and I had absolutely NO symptoms, I figured this wasn't our month.  I decided I would take a test if my period didn't start before Saturday.  Saturday was also Glen's birthday and I just thought that would be so awesome!  But I still didn't think I was.

On Saturday morning I got up early to take the test.  I wanted to do it before Glen got up and had to go to work.  I had 1 test left, I took it, and it was a dud!  Ahh!  Seriously!?  I had heard that you can actually use ovulation strips to test pregnancy too, so I took a couple of those and both lines showed up strong....  Hmmm, now I need to get a test!  I ran to walmart, still in my PJ's and glasses!  Haha.  I got the test and ran back.  I hurried to use it....  and ta da!  It was positive!  I couldn't believe it.  Especially because I hadn't felt different at all.  So I quickly got my little display ready.  Yes, I had this quite planned out.

Glen woke up and I showed him the display and said Happy Birthday, you're gonna be a daddy!  Or something like that.  He was super excited!!!  Yay!  Best birthday present ever, he said.  Then I had to just keep it to myself for a month or so.  That's the hard part.  And I took another test the next day just to make sure.  For a while it would be our little secret.  :)
I just had to get that book to tell Glen.  Plus we love Seinfeld.  But after I got that book, I read it, and I'm not a huge fan. And that onsie is a 6 month onsie, so it's a little big.

The more faded line is actually the test line, so yeah, we're definitely pregnant.
We're due August 20th.  :)  I am not looking forward to the hot hot summer in Yakima.  Ugh.  But we are very excited.  I just want to start feeling better now.
