Can I do this?

I'm just gonna be real here.  I was expecting a girl, and slightly hoping for a girl.  Cause let's be honest, I get girls.  I understand them.  I get the long conversations about nothing, the melodrama, the ups and downs, and the singing about everything they're doing.  Lol.  Glen still thinks it's weird that I sing a narrative of what I'm doing sometimes.  Isn't that normal for girls....?  Maybe not super normal, idk.  But the point is, I knew what I'd be in for with a girl.  And I was ready.

I was ready for the bows, the pink, the sparkles, and even the meltdowns about stupid things.  And I was excited to see Glen with a tiny girl wrapped around his finger.  How cute!  All the signs pointed towards girl and I was ready!

When I saw that it was most definitely a boy, I was shocked!  No, I was planning to have a girl!  This isn't right!  I was still incredibly excited, don't get me wrong, but I had to rethink all my thoughts.  I'm a planner and this was a major change of plans, for me.  With all the emotions of being pregnant and seeing our beautiful baby on the screen, I just exploded with emotions that night.  Haha.  And all I could think was, "Can I really do this?"  Can I raise a boy?  What do I know about boys.  They are silly, wild, gross, etc.  I'm girly, I don't do bugs, or horseplay.  This would be a whole new world.

But I've composed myself since then and held on to those sweet boys at work and realized, I CAN do this!  They are still so loving and caring and sweet!  They are not dramatic or sneaky or complicated... well, not as much.  And they sure love their mama's.  Boys can be just as fun.  And it will be fun to watch Glen and our son do "boy" things together.  Thank you to all you other mothers with sweet baby boys, that I can watch and think "I want a boy like that."

I'll refrain from posting the "Yep, that's a boy!" picture.   :)

I can do this right?  Any tips for raising boys?

  3. Oh Lauren. I always love your blog posts but this one is by far my favorite! I was the exact opposite. I wanted a boy so badly. I love my wild man! Get ready for bandaides and dirt and laughs when they fart. And jumping and hiting and trucks. But also be prepared for snuggles and cuddles and laughs and the cutest little word mommy! Good luck you are going to be a fantastic mom! You can do I know you can!!
